Being your own boss -Why entrepreneurship is worth it!
Is your job making you miserable? Do you feel chained to your desk at all times? Do you want more flexibility and freedom in life? Are you striving for a better work-life balance? Do you like working out? Do you like to help others? If you responded yes to one or all of these questions, starting your own business, or better yet, starting your own gym, may be your ticket to a better and more satisfying life.
At an economic level, entrepreneurship is credited with job creation, productivity and growth; commercialization of high quality innovation; and creation of spillovers that ultimately lead to regional employment growth rates of all companies in the long run. Simply put entrepreneurship is really good for the economy.
What about individuals? Are entrepreneurs happier than other people? The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), a credible source that has been monitoring global entrepreneurship for over a decade now, reported that entrepreneurs really are happier than other people and especially in an innovation-driven economy like the US, women entrepreneurs are happier than their male counterpart.
There are several positive lifestyle changes that you can enjoy being your own boss.
Personal Satisfaction: Having your own business means you can choose to run your business on your own terms and what you put in is what you get. There is no disgruntled boss or envious co-workers sabotaging your achievements or stifling your creativity. In fact, GEM reports that most of the entrepreneurs rated themselves as being satisfied with their professional lives.
Work life Balance: GEM researchers also asked participants about their work-life balance–and, here, too, entrepreneurs rated their lives more positively than people who aren’t running startups or established firms. They have flexibility in their lives to pursue hobbies, take weekends off, essentially do what you want when you want, as long as you have your most urgent items squared off. If you are a new parent, you can also build your work schedule around the child care duties and household chores.
